A Gale Warning is in effect for the waters off the Jersey Shore, lasting until 6 a.m. on Saturday (November 1). The warning covers areas 20 miles off the coast from Sandy Hook to Cape Henlopen in Delaware. According to the National Weather Service, winds could reach up to 35 knots with gusts up to 45 knots, and seas are expected to rise between six and nine feet. Mariners are advised to seek safe harbor and keep vessels in port to avoid potential capsizing or damage.
The warning is part of a broader weather pattern affecting the region, with a strong low-pressure system moving northeastward. The warning coincides with a coastal flood advisory in effect for parts of South Jersey, where minor tidal flooding is anticipated. Residents in Gloucester, Camden, and Burlington counties are urged to take precautions, as up to a half-foot of inundation is possible in low-lying areas.
The National Weather Service advises mariners to avoid being on the water during the gale warning and suggests that vessels remain in port or seek safe harbor. The hazardous conditions, including reduced visibility and rough seas, pose significant risks to watercraft.
The weather is expected to improve as high pressure builds in over the weekend, though another storm system may approach by mid-week. Mariners and residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions through official channels.
