The National Weather Service has issued wind alerts for five counties in South Jersey as a strong storm system approaches. The affected counties are Atlantic, Cape May, Ocean, Monmouth, and southeastern Burlington. According to the National Weather Service, the advisories are in effect from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday (October 30). Winds are expected to reach speeds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.
The storm is forecast to bring heavy rain, with amounts ranging from 1 to 2 inches, and isolated pockets could see up to 3 inches. The weather service has warned of possible tree damage and scattered power outages due to the high winds. There is also a slight risk of isolated thunderstorms and minor coastal flooding in some areas.
The storm system is moving from the Tennessee River Valley and is expected to impact the region through Friday morning. Another wave of strong winds is anticipated on Friday, with gusts between 40 and 50 mph, potentially leading to additional wind advisories. The weather is expected to remain chilly, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 50s on Halloween, and overnight lows dropping into the low 40s.
