The Grassy Sound Fishing Pier in Cape May County is reopening today (June 13) after being closed for three years due to structural concerns. The pier, a popular spot for fishing and crabbing, underwent a $3 million renovation project, which included replacing the dilapidated pier, improving lighting and signage, and upgrading parking and ADA access.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at 13 Old North Wildwood Blvd. East, with Cape May County Commission Director Len Desiderio, Middle Township Mayor Chris Leusner, and other local officials in attendance. According to NJ.com, Desiderio expressed excitement about the reopening, emphasizing the importance of enhancing public access to waterways and supporting affordable outdoor recreation.

The renovation, approved by the Cape May County Commissioners, also included the replacement of the bulkhead and the construction of a new pier on the remains of the old Grassy Sound Bridge. Middle Township will manage routine maintenance through an agreement with the county.

The pier will provide free access for fishing and crabbing, continuing its tradition as a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike. As reported by The Inquirer, the reopening marks a revival of a cherished tradition at the Jersey Shore.
