Residents in parts of New Jersey, particularly in central and south Jersey, are being cautioned about an increased risk of wildfires this weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement warning that gusty winds and dry conditions could significantly elevate the threat of wildfires on Saturday (March 1).

According to the National Weather Service, winds are expected to gust up to 35 miles per hour, combined with low humidity and dry brush, creating conditions that could lead to the rapid spread of any fires that ignite. The Mount Holly forecast office emphasized the potential difficulty in controlling such fires if they occur.

A strong clipper system moving across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast is contributing to these conditions, as reported by the Weather Forecast Office in Philadelphia/Mt Holly. This system is causing strong winds across the region, increasing the likelihood of fires spreading quickly.

Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and ensure that smoking materials, such as cigarette butts, are fully extinguished to prevent accidental fires. The community is urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of wildfires during this period of heightened danger.
