Freaky Fact Friday: The Notebook, "Fancy" Arby's, 90210 and more!

Here are some random facts that could be ice-breakers at a cocktail party, family dinner or first date (lol)

  1. Can you imagine Tom Cruise as Noah in "The Notebook?" It almost happened! In 1996, Steven Spielberg expressed interest in directing the movie and his pick for leading man was Tom Cruise. Scheduling conflicts got in the way and the project was left for years before a new director came along and wanted Ryan Gosling. The movie studio needed some convincing, eventually gave the go-ahead and the rest is history.
  2. The first product to use a UPC symbol with a barcode was a pack of Juicy Fruit gum in 1974. It is now in the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
  3. "Beverly Hills, 90210" was originally supposed to be set in Maryland, and be called "Potomac, 20854". The location and series name was changed after Fox executives decided it should be a place that was more recognizable. Otherwise, Kelly Taylor would have been driving her red convertible around Potomac!
  4. Arby's was originally created in the 1960s to be a "higher-end" fast food restaurant. Their first roast beef sandwich was 69 cents, which was four times more than a McDonald's hamburger.
  5. The word "onesie" is a Gerber trademark. They have sued other companies that use the name instead of something generic like "infant bodysuit."

Hope you enjoyed these random facts and feel free to pass them along!
