Rare Roseate Spoonbill Spotted in New Jersey

Roseate Spoonbill

A rare roseate spoonbill, a pink bird native to Florida, Texas, and Louisiana, has been spotted in New Jersey. Emilee Carton, a resident of Shrewsbury and an avid bird watcher, reported seeing the bird at Union Beach in Monmouth County earlier this month. The bird has also been sighted in Cumberland County.

The roseate spoonbill is known for its distinctive pink color and spoon-shaped bill. Bird experts suggest that recent hurricanes may have pushed these southern birds northward, leading to these unusual sightings in New Jersey. The roseate spoonbill is not typically found in the northern states, making these sightings particularly noteworthy for local bird watchers.
