Candace gets Candid at Congress Hall

She’s taking it to the streets - from uptown Manhattan to downtown Cape May.  American author, journalist, television producer and “Sex & The City” creator Candace Bushnell is bringing her one-woman show, “True Tales of Sex, Success, and Sex and the City” to Congress Hall in Cape May on Saturday, March 16th. Fans of the “original Carrie Bradshaw” can reserve a weekend full of events surrounding the author, including a swanky happy hour, Q&A session, 3-course dinner with performance, book signing & overnight stay at one of New Jersey’s most historic landmarks at the beach.

According to Bushnell, the show is “about my journey as a single woman through the decades”, she recounts in a sizzle reel touting her tour. Reviews of the show are positive, “It’s everything a fan would expect — strong independent woman platitudes, odes to female friendship, realness about menopause, dating after divorce and the ‘plus years’ – but that’s exactly why we’re here.” — The Guardian .

After its New York premiere at the Daryl Roth theatre in 2021, Bushnell’s performances continue to sell out from The London Palladium last month and onto Canada in March, following our local stop at Congress Hall in Cape May.

Whether you are confident like Carrie, sultry like Samantha, “Not Sure” like Charlotte, or meticulous like Miranda, we’ve all had a moment when we identify with a character from the Primetime Emmy award winning HBO hit series, “Sex & the City”. That relatability really is Candace to the core. It has also been the key to her success....in the 1990s, while writing her “Sex & the City” column for The New York Observer, through the 2000s when publishing four NYT best-selling novels, including “Is There Still Sex in the City” (which is the novel Bushnell is promoting on this tour) and by consulting on films as well as several miniseries.

Now in 2024 she is literally offering a front row seat into her personal experiences through her impressive one woman show. But hurry, experiences like this are like finding a pair of Manolo Blahniks in the discount bin. It almost never happens.

So, as we celebrate Women’s History Month, let’s remember these words from Carrie Bradshaw, (or do we credit Candace Bushnell? Hmm? )

"The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous."  - Carrie Bradsaw in HBO hit series, “Sex & the City”.

"Maybe some women aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they need to run free until they find someone just as wild to run with."  - Carrie Bradshaw HBO hit series, “Sex & the City”.
